What makes a good application?

Are you ready to celebrate your success?

The Taunton Deane Business Awards are showcasing successful businesses throughout Taunton Deane, with ten categories to choose from! We, PKF Francis Clark, are proud to once again be a main sponsor of the awards.

To enter is simple.  Visit the website, select your category, fill out the application form with your story, and submit it.

As a judge and a sponsor, we have compiled a list of five key considerations to help you complete your application:

  1. Have a plan – Think about the application carefully before committing anything to paper.
  2. Keep it relevant – Show in your application why you feel your business is worthy of winning the category that you are entering – in particular, what differentiates you from your competition?
  3. Make your visions clear – Can you demonstrate how you are aiming to achieve your goal? Is it sustainable?
  4. Make it factual – Consider using case-studies and supporting evidence to support you application.
  5. Seize the opportunity – When preparing the application, put yourself in the shoes of the judging panel whose job it is to shortlist for interview.  What makes your application stand out from the others?   You have one chance to make a first impression – use it wisely!

Entries must be received before the closing date of 30 March 2018 at 5pm.

Why Enter? We’ll never win!

Every business has its own set of strengths to celebrate and, funnily enough, many businesses have told us that they never realised just how many they had until they sat down and listed them, whilst writing their award application.
We all get so bogged down with the day to day running of the business; fretting about work, too little, too much. We rarely sit down and take an outside-in look at our companies.

Sustainable cities and communities

Viridor’s goal is to provide investment and a positive contribution to our communities. Community engagement plays a key part in helping us to achieve our goal and contribute towards the UN sustainable development goals.

Viridor was proud to be the Taunton Deane Business Award (TDBA) winner of the ‘CSR Award 2017’ for our community partnership with the Somerset Wildlife Trust and is delighted to be sponsoring the Community Engagement Award this year.
The Community Engagement Award gives businesses an opportunity to think outside of the work they do on a day-to-day basis within their company and to look at how their company engages with the Taunton Deane Community to give added value.

As one of the UK’s largest recycling and renewable energy companies, with roots in Taunton, our support for this award reflects the importance of making a positive contribution to the local community.  Community engagement is a vital part of what we do and drives our performance.

Viridor sponsors local community sport clubs, including Somerset County Cricket Club, the Taunton Football Stadium, and supports events such as Somerfest and Taunton Christmas Fest Live. The company donates £50,000 a year to local charities and community groups to support sustainable and Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) related community projects. Over the last few years, Viridor supported the Taunton Muskets BaseBall Club, Rotary club of Taunton’s charity golf day, Taunton Festival of the Arts, the creation of an environmental garden at Blackbrook Primary School and Heathfield School’s Swift bird box project. Staff also take part in local charity fundraising events in Taunton including the Dragon Boat Race for Headway Somerset.

Viridor has partnered with the Somerset Wildlife Trust and worked together on Taunton’s very first urban wildlife project the ‘Routes to the River Tone’. Viridor employees have volunteered with the Trust to improve Children’s Wood, an unloved green space near our headquarters. Our employees have undertaken litter picks and habitat management, including willow pollarding, coppicing and installing bat and bird boxes in the wood. Viridor, in partnership with the Trust, has also introduced three wild walks which encourage our employees, neighbouring businesses and the general public to get outdoors and connect with the natural environment and their local green space, improving both their physical and mental health.

Blog from Tone FM

For those who don’t know who we are, Taunton’s 107.8 Tone FM is a volunteer based Community Radio Station which broadcasts in and around the County Town on 107.8 FM and we now have our very own month newspaper called Tone News, which is delivered FREE to 15,000 homes in and around the County Town.

Our aim is to be involved with as many locally based projects, social groups and events as possible throughout the calendar year, to help promote and shout about the great things happening in Taunton.

Now, 3 years on, what has impressed me most of all about the TDBA, is how it highlighted so many fantastic businesses that I never even knew existed in the Taunton Deane area.

Now, in our 5th year and based at the Market House, we feel it is important to be involved with the TDBA so that we could do our bit in making sure that as many people as possible felt the same way.

As a small local business ourselves (a not for profit Community Interest Company), it is clear to see the benefits of these awards, because we don’t often get the opportunity to shout about the success stories , so to have them on the doorstep has to be a positive move forward.

The awards are now being recognised across a much wider area and have gained so much credibility, if we weren’t involved, then we would definitely be applying!

A word from Taunton Chamber of Commerce

The Taunton Chamber of Commerce is delighted to be taking on a greater role in the running of the Taunton Deane Business Awards

The awards allow opportunity for entrants to obtain recognition of their achievements. White Knight Marketing who have run the awards for the last two years in conjunction with the events main sponsors PKF Francis Clark, and Taunton Deane Borough Council have done a fantastic job, and have worked hard to make them so successful and we hope that by joining the team, the Chamber can help to continue this progression.

Why would you enter the Taunton Deane Business Awards?

It’s a question we get asked occasionally, and a good one if you have never considered what winning an award may do for your company profile, morale and reputation.

We asked one of the winners from last year, why they did it and what they got from it?

“2 years since launch, we decided to re-brand, develop a new website, invest in a new CRM (Customer relationship management) and enter the Taunton Deane Business Awards.

ABOUT THE AWARD

This award is open to applications from commercial, educational and voluntary organisations that have Creative Arts at their core.  This means that you either promote Creative Arts or feature Creative Arts as an intrinsic part of the vision or business model.
