BLOG POST BY JOHN ABBOTT, PRINCIPAL AT RICHARD HUISH COLLEGEJohn Abbot, Principal of Richard Huish College

Entering the Taunton Business Awards gives you the opportunity to be recognised as one of the best businesses in Taunton Deane.

As Principal of Richard Huish College, one of the best colleges in the South West, we are proud to be associated with the awards once again. Choosing to sponsor the Community Engagement Award was an easy decision, as making a positive impact on those around us is at the heart of the Huish ethos. It is one of our core ‘Values’.

We work collaboratively and constructively as a team in order to best serve the local and wider community – all stakeholders work together positively and professionally. Huish has approximately 2500 students studying a variety of A Level, Level 2 and 3 Vocational programmes, Apprenticeships, Traineeships and Professional courses. We have a culture that cares for the individual and promotes inclusivity, equality and mutual respect. Huish has also welcomed students from overseas into the Huish family for many years, utilising a network of local families and more recently, our purpose built boarding house on South Road. Our busy campus plays hosts to a range of sporting, drama, musical and educational groups. Opportunities include The Unicorn Badminton Club, Taunton Tigers Basketball, the Guildhall Centre for Young Musicians, The Pauline Quirk Academy of Performing Arts and The Open University.

You are very welcome to join us at our Open Evening on March 5th (5pm – 8pm) to find out more about all we can offer at Richard Huish College.

To enter the Community Engagement category you need to think about the following four questions:

  1. What has your company done to support the community?
  2. What have been the benefits/outcomes to that community?
  3. What benefits has your company experienced as a result?
  4. Why have you chosen to support the community in this way?

Closing date for entries is 5pm on the 29th March 2019.
